Just Be Happy by Alessandra Hayden

When I was first asked by Jeanne to write a post for her blog, I had no idea what to write about. I thought about something my husband would say: “start from the beginning and work your way down”, so that’s what I’ve decided to do.

Let’s begin!

I am Alessandra Hayden, crochet designer, art & craft lover, coffee addict with a baking obsession. I live here in Gig Harbor with my husband, two children and two fluffy dogs.

My crochet journey started at 8 years old, when my grandmother taught me to crochet to keep me busy while she was in charge of watching me, after my mom had passed away. I kept at it through the years, making cute tops and skirts for myself and friends in high school and college.

Crochet has helped me through times when grief and anxiety felt like swallowing me whole, it has brought me friendships, a book deal, my patterns published in magazines in the US and UK and a business, too!

I promise you that when I was that little girl, sitting in my grandma’s couch in Brazil, I never thought crochet would become part of my career, that Red Heart Yarns would have my pattern on their yarn labels or that Michael’s store would teach one of my patterns in their crochet classes.

Sometimes life takes you to a path that you might have not known existed, but it sure can be a fun ride, if you decide to give it a chance!

Take a class, learn a craft, dance, bake, or whatever you feel like you have a desire to try, it’s worth a shot!
